THE COMPANY

The name Pfitscher has always been synonymous with a passion for making great wines. After all, we are in Montagna. Montagna is in the South Tyrolean lowlands, and the low country is wine country! We couldn’t do anything else, even if we wanted to...
Three generations live, work and make wine together here. It’s amazing to see what you get when you put the different characters and qualities of our family members into one big melting pot and give them a good stir. It’s a recipe for knowledge and creativity teamed with true craftsmanship and a big dollop of passion.
The Pfitschers have been making wine since 1861. That’s over 150 years, during which both our wine and our philosophy have undergone major development. In the past, wine had to meet a different set of requirements to today. Our dad, Klaus, understood this as far back as 40 years ago, which is why he decided to focus on making more challenging wines and producing the highest possible quality. At the time, this concept was not very widespread amongst the winemakers of South Tyrol. But how right he was. Today, our wines still represent the sheer power of the grapes. They are wines with the hallmark of authenticity and sincerity.
CASA CLIMA WINE
How did Pfitscher come to be the first winemaker with a CasaClima accreditation in Italy? Simple: we wanted to live and work in harmony with nature. To create a product that is as natural and authentic as possible. 
Admittedly, the certificate given to us on completion of our building work wasn’t our primary goal. Rather, we wanted to provide the best backdrop for our wine whilst making it in a way that was kind to the environment. It was only once the construction work was underway that we were even aware this certification from the South Tyrol CasaClima Agency existed. Since the requirements largely overlapped with our ideas, we decided to pursue it. To obtain certification, we had to, and still have to, take numerous measures to be sustainable and environmentally friendly in every aspect of our operations, from cultivation and processing through to packaging. Conservative use of energy and water is a must, and even the living standards have to be right. Working together with the agency, we succeeded in this endeavour.
STEEP SLOPES
We cultivate a range of different sites and soils in five South Tyrolean municipalities. We love to work up a sweat here — and often do. But our efforts are rewarded, or so say wine enthusiasts, who especially love the freshness and authenticity of our wines.
We cultivate our wine in five different areas, each presenting us with a set of challenges that couldn’t be more varied and each cleverly matched to the different characters and flamboyant natures of our wines.
