Timorasso is a vine native to the province of Alessandria, a white grape quality, grown mainly in the Curone, Grue, Ossona, and Borbera, in an 'area where the vine is a valuable "habitat" thanks to the ground, the long sunshine and the position sheltered from the wind.
Its production is very limited, but high quality. The wine made from it, good structure, is very popular among gourmets; It belongs to the latest generation of the "white" of the province of Alexandria, despite its ancient origins.
The white grape variety is native Timorasso in Tortona district. In this area it has grown from the Middle Ages and been heard since the first agrarian encyclopedia written in the fourteenth century by Pier de Crescenzi. The ampelography described by the same author leaves little doubt on the originality of the grape. Its spread has focused mainly on the upper middle part of the main valleys of Tortona; from east to west the Curone Valley, the Val Grue and Ossona valley. At the same time it widens the cultivation in Val Borbera, in the Novi and in Oltrepò Pavese.
Over the centuries it confirms their attitudes so as to become the most important white grape variety in Piedmont relative to the surface and to the quantities produced. There are in fact, to prove this, at the State Archives in Turin, the documents which, in the period between the wars, witnessed purchases of young and semi-finished product that brokers promoted to northern Europe and they called "Torbolino". In the aftermath of World War II, in conjunction with the economic "boom" and the depopulation of the most difficult areas of agricultural areas, saw a decline in terms of cultivated area. This decline continued until the penultimate decade of the last century when a group of young winemakers Tortona, it rediscovers the old tradition and takes the path of revival.
