Pure Malt Whiskey The Kurayoshi '8 Years Old' by Matsui Whiskyi is a blended single malts aged for at least 8 years in barrels that previously contained bourbon whiskey and bottled at a classic 43% vol. Bouquet of beautiful initial floral notes which then give way to vanilla and fruit. On the palate notes of citrus, toasted oak, vanilla and ginger. Short persistence finish with notes of toasted almonds, honey, ginger and green grass.

Founded in 1910, Matsui Shuzo is located in the Tottori Prefecture, Northwest of Kyoto and Northeast of Hiroshima, on the shore of the Sea of Japan.  Over 14% of the prefecture is a Natural park, packed with lush vegetation, rugged coastlines, rivers, and lakes.

To be clear, Matsui Shuzo is known in Japan as both a sake brewery and shochu distillery.  While the juice in Kurayoshi is 100% malted barley, the spirits themselves have been sourced from distilleries around Scotland before making their journey to Japan, where they are blended with Japanese-distilled malted barley then aged (3-18 years). The whisky is then proofed down with the famously soft ground waters of Tottori Prefecture.   All expressions of Kurayoshi are non-chill filtered, with no caramel added, and over 40% ABV.

THE DISTILLERY

Matsui Distillery is located on the coast of Tottori Prefecture - in the area south of the island of Honshu - well known for its sand dunes. The whiskies produced by Matsui are distilled with pure ultra-pure water from the Daisen Mountains. The production of Matsui is small and artisanal and the available stocks of Kurayoshi Whiskey are very limited. This makes this collection particularly refined and precious.
