THE COMPANY

Château Petrus is a monument of world enology and boasts a record in the entire district of Bordeaux: that of prices. As a rule, the Petrus comes out of the cellar to figures that other producers can not afford to apply, and normally the prices are further reassessed over time. Despite this, it does not have a long history behind it. The Petrus estate took shape only in 1920, when Madame Loubat, of the Hôtel Loubat of Libournes, bought a piece of land in the Pomerol, an area at the time considered second class for viticulture and consisted of only 7 hectares of vine land . In 1940 it became its sole owner. On the other hand, the great potential of the wines of Château Petrus was evident, to the point that in 1964, the famous négociant Jean Pierre Moueix became co-owner of the winery. The secret of the quality of the Domaine Petrus lies in the union between a unique terroir and perfectionism applied to every single production step. In July, a green pruning to say the least drastic lowers the amount of grapes, however, preferring quality. For the harvest, moreover, a squadron composed of almost two hundred people is hired, so as to reduce to one afternoon the time needed to harvest the grapes of the 12 hectares of vineyards and obtain the perfect harmony in the maturation of the vines. Even in the cellar, precision and meticulousness are a must. If you add to this the great trade ability of the Moueix family, which has the merit of having made this wine known all over the world making it a star of the wine market, the recipe is complete. As a rule, the Petrus is produced with merlot grapes vinified in purity, but when the time allows a perfect maturation of the cabernet franc, a small percentage of this variety is also added. This is how season after season every year a page is added to the great book of international enology.
