The Toscana Rosso 'Sassoalloro Oro' from Tenuta Castello di Montepò, owned by Jacopo Biondi Santi, is born on the beautiful hills in the Scansano area. A pure Sangiovese, it ages in oak barrels and barriques for about 16 months. Long and enveloping on the palate, it expresses fresh and fruity notes of berries, cherry, and delicate spicy hints due to the long aging in wood. A wine to accompany rich dishes of red meat or a platter of aged cheeses.

Jacopo Biondi Santi
Set in the picturesque landscape of the Tuscan Maremma, the winery Jacopo Biondi Santi represents a bridge between history and winemaking innovation. Heir to a legendary winemaking tradition, Jacopo Biondi Santi has managed to imprint his distinctive mark, combining respect for family heritage with a modern and enterprising approach. The winery is located in one of the most fascinating areas of Tuscany, known for its wild beauty and ability to produce wines with a strong personality.
In this sun-kissed land, the Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards find the ideal habitat to express their full potential. The IGT Toscana designation allows for a certain stylistic freedom, which Jacopo Biondi Santi leverages to create wines that tell stories of passion and commitment. The production philosophy here is a wise balance between tradition and innovation, where modern techniques merge with the wisdom of the past to create wines that are authentic works of art.
Among the main labels, the Sassoalloro and Schidione stand out, each with a unique and unmistakable character. The Sassoalloro, elegant and refined, seduces with its complex aromas and velvety structure, while the Schidione offers an intense tasting experience, combining the power of Cabernet Sauvignon with the finesse of Sangiovese. Each sip is a celebration of the Maremma, capable of evoking images of golden hills and sea breezes.

THE WINE
The Toscana Rosso 'Sassoalloro Oro' from Tenuta Castello di Montepò, owned by Jacopo Biondi Santi, is born on the beautiful hills of the Scansano area. A pure Sangiovese, it ages in oak barrels and barriques for about 16 months. Long and enveloping on the palate, it expresses fresh and fruity notes of berries, cherry, and delicate spicy hints due to the long aging in wood. A wine to be paired with rich red meat dishes or a platter of aged cheeses.
THE ESTATE
Jacopo Biondi Santi is the heir and continuator of one of the most illustrious names in Italian wine. He is indeed the son of Franco, the gentleman of Brunello, who made Tenuta il Greppo in Montalcino a significant international reference point. Today, alongside the famous estate in the Orcia Valley, Jacopo also manages the vast lands of the historic Castello di Montepò, south of Grosseto, in the heart of Maremma. This is a subjective and personal challenge that began in 1991, giving rise to linear and immediately understandable territorial interpretations, representing an international and modern style. On one hand, Jacopo is aware of being part of one of the most historic families linked to the world of wine in Italy, while on the other hand, an enterprising personality takes flight, wanting to express his future vision beyond a glorious past, putting his remarkable entrepreneurial skills to the test.
The winery of Castello di Montepò owned by Jacopo Biondi Santi has a remarkable extent, nearly reaching 220 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards stretch across a hilly and pedocollinair area, starting from the north and east towards the plain of Albinia and towards the Tyrrhenian coast. Each plot obviously has different exposures and altitudes, which can reach up to 500 meters. The microclimate is generally ventilated and dry, with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, ideal for promoting quality viticulture. The subsoils have a notable mineral richness, characterized by a strong presence of schist. Among the rows, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and of course, Sangiovese, the grape variety that has brought fortune to the family, are cultivated. Each operation among the rows is followed and monitored with great attention by the winery team, just as it happens in every phase of winemaking and aging.
The Jacopo Biondi Santi winery is a reality that annually produces several high-level reds, the result of the high winemaking potential of the Maremma territory. Castello di Montepò represents one of the oldest and most important historical testimonies of the area, known also by the novelist Graham Greene, and the produced labels retain this unmistakably Tuscan charm. Among the various bottles, the “Sassoalloro” elegantly interprets Sangiovese, giving a full-bodied and noble sip at the same time.
